What They Are Saying
Jefferson is a practitioner that sees the whole picture, and the whole person...
Prior to working with him, I had been suffering from a bad knee and I had been diagnosed by an orthopedist who recommended surgery. After only one treatment, prior to which I had not told Jefferson of my knee problem, all pain and symptoms disappeared, and I now have full functionality with my knee.
My subsequent treatments with him have also been invaluable. And I whole heartedly recommend him to anyone.
Jefferson Breland is a walking welcome! Over the course of 35 years he has been a loving, supportive, inspirational force in my life. His sense of power and self are expressed gently with wisdom, humor and a wealth of lived experience. He has masterfully woven multiple career paths together to create a rich, deep practice in acupuncture and Dragon's Way Qigong. No matter where you are in life, Jefferson respects and believes in your ability to heal.

How I Got Here
Acupuncture and Me
I came to acupuncture as a patient in 1991. After a two-month-long bout of bronchitis, I had symptoms of asthma. My doctor gave me two inhalers to help me breathe and told me I would be a pulmonary cripple for the rest of my life. This statement scared me and enraged me at the same time.
After about six months of carrying this “cripple” story around, a friend suggested I see her acupuncturist. I had a crush on my friend so I went.
Long story short (details upon request), my symptoms decreased as I continued to receive acupuncture treatments over time as I moved from Baltimore to Pittsburgh to Seattle to Boston to New York and back to Baltimore in 2002. Sometime in that 11-year period, I stopped having any symptoms of asthma. I have not had an inhaler for almost 20 years. Since then I have received regular acupuncture treatments for health maintenance and to address the various health concerns that show up from time to time.
How I came to be an acupuncturist was not exactly a straight line. I have followed my heart time and time again gathering a very diverse set of experiences that led me to study the most beautiful form of medicine I know. Though a confluence of brilliant teachers and opportunities, I decided to spend the rest of my life learning and practicing a medicine that encompasses the full breadth and depth of human experience.
I am a Nationally Board Certified (NCCAOM) acupuncturist currently licensed in Maryland and Pennsylvania. I received my Master of Acupuncture Degree from Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly Tai Sophia Institute). I continue to study Chinese Medicine as a student of Dr. Nan Lu of the TCM World Foundation and Tao of Healing School.
(By the way, my friend became an acupuncturist in 2001 and we got married in 2003.)
